Unfortunately the issue has been clouded by government ineptitude - they effectively have lent money without any conditions and now expect to have some input into remuneration simply because of public reaction not because of any higher motive. Any commercial lender worth his salt would have done the homework up front and imposed appropriate lending conditions before not after the fact.
Nevertheless, government interference in a free market economy spells disaster - for anything to function efficiently and effectively the government footprint must be SMALL.
History has shown there is a direct correlation between a healthy economy and two items - taxes and the price of energy. Higher taxes for the US to support government interference will undoubtedly kill the economy.

Obama has surrounded himself with radicals all his life. The fact that they are now part of his administration should come as no surprise.
